ATM Took Your EBT Money but Didn’t Give Cash? Here’s Exactly What to Do

SNAP benefits are a lifeline for many families, and your EBT card ensures you can buy groceries or withdraw cash when you need it most.

But what if you try to get cash at an ATM, and it deducts from your balance but doesn’t give you the money?

You’re not alone, and there’s a clear path to get your money back.

What to Do Right Away

If an ATM took your EBT funds without dispensing cash:

  1. Call EBT Customer Service Immediately: (877) 328-9677

  2. Follow the automated instructions to file a claim for the missing funds.

Important: The bank or the ATM owner cannot give you the cash back. Only your EBT customer service team can process your claim and restore the deducted amount if approved.

What If Your EBT Card Is Lost or Stolen?

If your card is lost, stolen, or damaged, protect your benefits by reporting it immediately:

  1. Call (877) 328-9677

  2. Do not enter your card number.

  3. When prompted, press 1 to report your card as lost, stolen, or damaged.

  4. Your card will be deactivated to prevent misuse, and you’ll receive a replacement card so you can continue using your SNAP benefits.

Can You Use Your EBT Card in Another State?

Yes! Your EBT card works in all 50 states, Washington D.C., Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands at any store or ATM displaying the Quest® symbol.

This means you can travel without worrying about losing access to your benefits.
